Eee PC 901 to offer faster SSD, longer battery life

Eee PC 901 to offer faster SSD, longer battery lifeA new ASUS Eee PC 901 model has been spotted for sale in France that offers a high-speed 16GB solid state drive (SSD) along with a new, six-cell 8700mAh battery that is good for 7.2V and should provide users with as much as eight hours of battery life. An Italian Eee PC 901 GO offers the new SSD as well. The 8.9-inch netbook uses Windows XP or Linux operating systems. Previously, the Eee PC 901 offered 20GB of SSD storage for the XP version and 12GB in the Linux versions.

The 16GB SSD is also one of the faster drives of its kind in the market thanks to a new embedded controller chip with tests showing it is capable of 50MBps write and 87MBps read speeds. The new SSD drive, which will also be offered on the ASUS S101, along with the new battery from Panasonic, are reportedly part of the computer-maker's mission to increase the speed and battery life of its Eee PC offerings.

In addition to the changes, the new Eee PC 901 is due to offer a 1.6GHz Intel Atom CPU along with a Wi-Fi module, 1.3-megapixel camera and a Bluetooth connection. Available in black only, the netbook is priced at the equivalent of $505 in France. [viaBlogeee]
