Rogers has quietly bolstered its wireless data plans this week to improve its options for iPhones and other smartphone users, according to forum posts from observers. The carrier has introduced an as-yet unpublished $30 Data Value Pack that combines 500MB of monthly data with 10,000 outbound text messages, Visual Voicemail on the iPhone, caller ID, and a WhoCalled text notification of missed calls. The data applies to any device Rogers offers and can be combined with any voice plan.
A separate $20 Value Pack just for BlackBerry users is also available that includes the same features except for data, which is no longer metered but is limited to BlackBerry Internet Service usage for e-mail and instant messaging.
The discount potentially reduces the monthly costs for users of Apple's handset or other smartphones on Rogers' network that only use a relatively small amount of data, such as for casual web and e-mail use, as it lets these users add a separate voice plan without having to purchase separate packs for both texting and data.
