Alltel launches Perks content delivery service

Alltel launches Perks content delivery serviceAlltel Wireless on Thursday announced the launch of Alltel Perks, a content delivery application that allows the carrier's customers to receive customized content that includes sports scores, weather information, discounts, trivia and more on their handsets. Once the application is downloaded from the Alltel store, it will deliver content to the phone's screen when the phone is idling. Coupons or discount offers from local merchants and restaurants will be sent to users' handsets, which can then be ignored or explored further by clicking a View button.

Users who register the service may incur airtime service charges in the process of exploring the offers, but Alltel Perks itself is free to download. The application delivers specific information based on users' ZIP codes, age and gender, and sends offers that are both time- and date-sensitive. Two examples of the coupons include a $2 off coupon for lunch at a local restaurant, sent during the week before noon, or a 10 percent discount at a local retail store. Users then simply show the merchant the coupon on their phone, or can contact them by pressing a direct contact button.
