Epson unveils its first sheet-fed scanners

Epson unveils its first sheet-fed scannersTechnology company Epson has introduced the WorkForce Pro GT-S50 and GT-S80, its first sheet-fed scanners. The devices can both handle documents up to 6.5 inches by 36 inches, along with rigid ID cards, with automatic paper size detection. A dual-color CCD sensor and mercury-free Led technology are claimed to eliminate warm-up waiting time. The interface is displayed on an LCD panel that allows one-touch scan or scan-to-PDF. Both sides of a document are scanned in just one pass, with functions for automatic de-skew and background color removal.

The GT-S80 can process up to 40 pages per minute or 80 images per minute, taken from a 75-page feeder. The scanner integrates ultrasonic double-feed detection to reduce errors. The company lists a high duty cycle of 1,800 sheets per day. The GT-S50 is a more economical version, capable of 25 pages per minute or 50 images per minute, with a duty cycle of 1,200 sheets.

Both WorkForce products connect via USB 2.0 cables, and are compatible with Mac and Windows systems. The GT-S50 and GT-S80 will both be available next month, with estimated street prices of $500 and $900, respectively.
