Portable GPS device manufacturer TomTom will soon release a new GPS system, if a filing with the Federal Communications Commission is to be taken as an indication. The new model, expected to be called the ONE XL II, should add Bluetooth functionality for hands-free cellphone use to specifications and features otherwise shared by the existing ONE XL-S. In the process, the XL II becomes the first navigation device from the ONE line to include Bluetooth. The two units feature 4.3-inch touchscreens and, thanks to text-to-speech functionality, will say street names to ensure users will get to their destination. Users will be able to buy new maps and download software updates for the new TomTom unit, which comes preloaded with complete mapping information for North America. Either unit also supports traffic information updates, either via an optional traffic receiver or a subscription to TomTom Traffic service.
Thus far, little to no specific information is known about the ONE XL II, though it is expected to come to market in time for the holiday season, and should be priced above the $350 ONE XL-S. [viaGPStracklog]
