Wireless provider AT&T and handset maker Sony Ericsson on Monday announced the availability of the Sony Ericsson W760a Walkman phone, unique as the first Walkman-branded handset to offer access to 3G data networks on AT&T and possessing a built-in accelerometer that allows users to switch tracks by shaking or tilting the device. The new interface method can also be used as a controller when playing video games. As with the other Walkman handsets offered by AT&T, the W760a supports AT&T's mobile music applications that include Napster Mobile, eMusic Mobile, Music ID and XM Radio. For storage, the handset includes 40MB of built-in memory but also has a Memory Stick Micro (M2) card slot.
The 240x320-pixel screen acts as the viewfinder for the 3.2-megapixel still and video camera, and can display driving directions via AT&T's Navigator service and the integrated aGPS. Bluetooth A2DP support allows users to listen to music via wireless headphones. Alternately, a pair of speakers will play music without any connected headphones. Access to mobile email, mobile instant messenger programs and full HTML web browsing is possible.
The W760a is priced at nearly $130 with a two-year contract and mail-in rebate. It is available in red and black, as well as silver, although for a limited time and available exclusively at Radio Shack.
