Fujifilm intros Z200fd, A850 pocket cams

Fujifilm intros Z200fd, A850 pocket camsFujifilm on Thursday launched a pair of compact point-and-shoots, including one that promises more intelligent shot-taking. The 10-megapixel FinePix Z200fd is pitched as the first camera to include a timer based on its face detection feature: the Couple Timer and Group Timer features watch the number of identifiable faces in a scene and will refuse to take a photo until as many as four people are in the shot. The Couple Timer can additionally recognize the proximity of couples' faces and can be switched to take photos when the faces are at arm's length or as close as cheek-to-cheek.

The metal-framed camera also includes a relatively powerful 5X optical zoom lens with a 33-165mm equivalent focal range, both sensor-shift and ISO-based image stabilization, and standard ISO sensitivity up to ISO 1600. Versions come in black, pink, silver, and a two-tone black and red mix. Fujifilm anticipates the Z200fd launching in UK stores by August, but hasn't set international releases and will only release the price closer to the final launch.

Sitting at a more basic level, the FinePix A850 is an entry-level 8-megapixel camera with a 3X zoom lens and ISO 800 sensitivity; its 14 scene presets and a simpler form of image stabilization are the camera's primary features. The A850 is run on a pair of AA batteries and will be available in the UK by July, with an international release likely to follow.
