Agile has released a new upgrade for 1Password, bringing the software to v2.6. The program is used to automate the entry of web passwords, and can also fill in other forms such as those for credit cards and bank accounts. To protect against the inherent danger of this, the app includes anti-phishing protection. New to v2.6 is an expanded anti-phishing safeguard, in the form of an online service by PhishTank. This service is, however, purely optional.

Freeridecoding has opened a public beta for a new application, BurnAgain FS. Unlike some of the company's other programs, which operate entirely under a separate window, FS lets users change the data on a CD or DVD through Finder. It does this by mounting a disc as if it were a hard drive, in turn letting users add, edit and delete files multiple times until a disc becomes full, without creating multiple volumes.

Automatic e-mail notifications are present, and extra Technical Charts have been added, along with rearrangement options.

Verizon claims most new subscribers in Q1 results
Verizon is claiming to have had extremely healthy financial results in its first quarter, despite intense competition and a failing American economy. Total revenues increased 5.5 percent to $23.8 billion, while operating income went up 14.1 percent to $4.3 billion. The company notably claims that its Wireless division gained more customers than any of its rivals, at a net increase of 1.5 million; this is despite the threat posed by Sprint's Simply Everything plan, and the iPhone carried by AT&T.

Apple may be looking to license haptic technology from another company, as the industry looks to develop and incorporate more touch feedback technology into devices. Immersion Corporation, a patent-driven digital technology company, has reportedly hired a former Apple executive and has had talks this week to license the haptic technology for in Apple's iPhone. On Thursday, Immersion Corporation announced that it had appointed former Apple executive Clent Richardson to the position of President and CEO and a new report claims that Apple this week began talking to Immersion about a potential licensing agreement for its technology. Adobe on Monday announced that GoLive website creation tool has been discontinued in favor of Dreamweaver, the popular design tool acquired from Macromedia a little more than three years ago; confirming reports from a almost two years ago (which the company later denied and subsequently promised continued support), Adobe said it has ceased development and sales of the effective Monday, April 28, 2008. However, despite the Macworldreport, the software was still available for sale (and as an upgrade) on Adobe's website early Monday morning.

Apple may be preparing to add iPhone (and iPod touch) functions to connect to and play media from nearby iTunes sources. Citing an "anonymous tipster," TUAWreports that code found in the latest firmware release points to a new iPhone application called iControl, which it says could be part of Apple's own plan to release new software applications based on forthcoming iPhone SDK. Based on strings found in the code of the latest private iPhone firmware beta, the application would allow users to connect to shared iTunes library running on a PC to playback songs or view videos. According to the report, the media navigator will allow users to view videos, play podcasts, listen to music and even support shuffle playback from the iTunes library. If true, iPhone and iPod touch users would not only be able to playback media from their device, but may also be able to actively control iTunes installed on a PC.

The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center is launching the "Digital Backpack," which will allow visitors at the Freedom Center to utilize social networking technology, digital media production, and wireless computing in ways that empower them to create, "distribute and access a shared vision for freedom." The company has chosen Apple products to power the project: each pack contains an Apple MacBook Pro notebook computer, iPod classic with voice recorder, digital camera, HD digital camcorder and tripod. These perspectives are then captured as a digital movie, archived at the Freedom Center, and published to an iTunes channel that the Center is launching in May.

"Through this project, we will advance two of our greatest priorities: enhancing the unique Freedom Center guest experience, and extending this experience beyond the walls of the Freedom Center to millions across the globe," said Donald W. Murphy, Chief Executive Officer of the Freedom Center.

AT&T, Starbucks begin Wi-Fi deployment

AT&T and Starbucks have announced that they are finally beginning to deploy their joint Wi-Fi service, which lets existing AT&T customers go online from a cafe for free. To qualify, users must have one of AT&T's home or small business broadband packages, or a U-verse IPTV subscription; starting on May 1st, these people will need only login to "ATTWiFI" inside a Starbucks outlet. Some 7,000 locations should have Wi-Fi in May, though customers may already be able to login from San Antonio.

The company is also gradually opening the service to other customers, who may or may not have to pay. Costs will depend in the intensity of usage, and may also relate to money paid to Starbucks; many coffee shops in the US offer "free" Wi-Fi access, but only after someone has purchased food or a drink.

Jobs: Apple, Intel still in good relationship

Intel has nothing to fear from Apple's acquisition this week of chip designer PA Semi, says Steve Jobs. The Apple CEO has dismissed rumors that the company is looking to distance itself from Intel, a view based primarily on the fact that Intel is also involved in the kind of mobile processor technology PA specializes in. Apple depends heavily on Intel technology for its desktop and notebook computers.

"We have a great partnership with Intel," Jobs insists. "We expect that to continue forever."

The reason Apple actually acquired PA Semi is said to be the designers at the company, who will be used to provide expertise in developing further portable electronics in the vein of the iPod and iPhone. Apple has long had to design custom electronics for its portables, Jobs argues; it is also known that Intel has little to no components inside current Apple handhelds.

Jobs has likewise rejected notions that it could return to IBM's PowerPC format, which PA Semi has based some of its chip designs on. "I wouldn’t lose too much sleep over that," Jobs comments. "We're very happy with Intel."

Extend Studio has released two new plug-ins for Dreamweaver, DW Image Effects and DW Image Show. Image Effects lets users apply "Photoshop-like" touches to objects, such as glow effects or soft borders. 3D art can be produced from simple shapes, and the plug-in applies to static, rollover and button items in a page. The plug-in is priced at $50.

Image Show contains over 20 transition effects for graphics presentations, such as pans and zooms. Users can assign combinations of both incoming and outgoing transitions, and attach links as well as soundtracks. Like Image Effects, Image Show is priced at $50. Both programs require Mac OS X 10.1.x, JavaScript, Flash Player 8, and Dreamweaver 8 or later.
